The Best Speakeasies in Las Vegas

When Prohibition went into effect on January 17, 1920, thousands of once-legal, men-only saloons across the country closed their doors. Those wishing to drink had to purchase alcohol from licensed pharmacists for “medical” reasons, from clergymen for “religious” reasons, or from illegal vendors known as bootleggers.

Another option was to enter private, unlicensed bars, nicknamed “speakeasies” because of the “password” that had to be spoken quietly to gain entry so as not to be overheard by law enforcement.

Later, with the passage of the Twenty-first Amendment that allowed the sale of alcohol in 1933, speakeasies largely disappeared. However, in the 21st century, they have seen a resurgence, but now legally. Today, an alternative to loud, crowded bars, speakeasies offer a more intimate and relaxed experience. Most feature retro furniture, and some places require a password or special knock to enter.

In this article, we take you through the 15 best Speakeasies in Las Vegas.
